The Right-of-Way Agent role will include but not be limited to acquiring necessary property rights for transportation and/or aviation infrastructure projects; initial property owner meetings; initial property research; offer package preparation; negotiating with property owners; ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state regulations; assisting in parcel closings; and other ancillary tasks associated with the acquisition of necessary property rights. This role requires occasional travel to meet with property owners and clients which involves time driving (sometimes for extended periods).
A successful candidate must be able to multitask while producing high quality work. This candidate will be proficient in managing deadlines and prioritize effectively; well organized and able to balance multiple projects/tracts simultaneously; approachable and able to interact with people clearly and effectively; a Team player but can also thrive in an independent environment; a problem solver with strong negotiation skills and attention to detail; dependable, reliable, and organized with a professional attitude.
Candidate must:
- Have a minimum of three (3) years prior experience in Right of Way (utility, transportation, etc.) or in a field involving negotiation (examples may include real estate, appraisal, mediator, relocation, construction management, survey, environmental, or civil engineering).
- Have experience acquiring property rights for DOT’s and local government infrastructure projects. Experience in TN is strongly preferred, not required.
- Possess their TN real estate salesperson license. This is strongly preferred, not required.
- Be a TN Notary Public or be able to obtain within 60 days of hire.
- Possess proficiency with MS Office Suite.
- Have a valid driver's license.
- Be proficient with or speak English as their native language.
- Regularly communicate/exchange information in person, via phone, and via email in a clear manner.
- Be able to read, understand, and interpret right-of-way plans, construction plans, and related documents and data.
- Have the capability to move about inside the office to access files, office equipment, and to interact with coworkers.
